As the balance of amino acids improves with L-Lysine, DL-Methionine, and L-Threonine, Tryptophan generally becomes the next limiting amino acid. Because corn is low in tryptophan, corn-soy diets can include added synthetic tryptophan.
Serortonin, a neuro-mediator in the brain, is also derived from Tryptophan. Due to this relationship tryptophan has been fed at higher levels to calm animals in stress conditions.
