Supply Stories: On the Road, No Matter What

When you work in feed or food ingredient sourcing and logistics, you inevitably have stories to tell. We’ve seen and done a lot here at Bill Barr in the 60+ years we’ve been in service. We’ve asked Edna Peuser, office manager and head problem-solver here at Bill Barr & Co., to share some ways we’ve gone above, beyond and back again getting clients what they need, when they need it. Take it away, Edna!

Sometimes, pressure is unavoidable in the feed and food business. Clients need their ingredients no matter what, because they’re under pressure to produce for their customers. Suppliers are under pressure to get ingredients where they need to go, no matter what.

Bill Barr & Company’s job is to relieve that pressure on both ends of the supply chain. And that often means extra hours on the job, or doing tasks that you simply weren’t planning to tackle.

“That’s what we do here at Bill Barr,” Edna explains. “Whatever it takes to get our clients what they need.”

Edna remembers one specific story about the Bill Barr team facing an unexpected obstacle. “It was winter, and the truck was involved in an accident. Flipped completely over,” she details. “There was nothing you could do. The product couldn’t be delivered.”

Well, that truckload couldn’t be delivered because it was unreachable on an icy road. But the supplier had more product available. So we arranged a second truck, dispatched it to the warehouse, re-loaded with another supply and got it back on the road, where it reached the client unscathed.

“Suppliers have a tough job,” Edna says. “They are under pressure to get their product where it needs to go, when it needs to be there. No matter what.”

Bill Barr is here to help with the “no matter what,” no matter what.
