When you work in feed or food ingredient sourcing and logistics, you inevitably have stories to tell. We’ve seen and done a lot here at Bill Barr in the 60+ years we’ve been in service. Once again we’ve asked Edna Peuser, office manager and head problem-solver here at Bill Barr & Co., to share some ways we’ve gone above, beyond and back again getting clients what they need, when they need it. Take it away, Edna!
Bill Barr & Co. has changed quite a bit in the 24 years that Edna has been with us, but one thing that hasn’t changed is our dedication to our suppliers and customers.
“When I started I think there was only five of us,” Edna recalls.
We’ve added technical support for nutrition and formula assistance and a quality team that audits warehouses and suppliers we work with. We go through their protocols, certifications and HACCP plans and see how they operate. We also have a team that helps solve freight and logistics issues.
“We have our own transportation team here at Bill Barr & Co. with a very reliable group of carriers that have a quick turnaround on many types of trucks, vans, hoppers, pneumatics,” Edna says. “That makes a big difference when things go south on a delivery.”
“One of our suppliers had a truck that went missing and could not be located. The solution here was to send in a new truck for the same items, the same day, and continue to deliver the load to the customer.”
If we can help a supplier that needs transportation coverage, we work with them and do whatever it takes to get the job done. We also follow the order from ship date to delivery date so we don’t miss deliveries. We’ll contact the shipper to make sure it’s loading and shipping on the day it’s supposed to.
“A lot of bigger companies don’t do that — make sure every shipment goes out the door and delivered on time,” Edna says. “Bill Barr & Co. keeps a high standard of service. The service is what we built the company on.”
